Consecrate a fast, Call a sacred assembly; Gather the elders And all the inhabitants of the land Into the house of the LORD your God, And cry out to the LORD. (Joel 1:14)
When we fast, our primary goal is to eat the word and not to mark time. If you aren’t feasting on the word of God during a fast, you are hunger striking, not fasting. A fast is designed to boost your spirit at the expense of your flesh because at such times, you give up physical food for the food of the spirit.
The technology for fasting is straightforward. Focus on the word via study and meditation, and then, use prayer as a spiritual digestive aid.
Understand that when you fast, you are pulling down strongholds and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of Christ. The flesh is a high thing whose transactions, we mortify through spiritual exercises.
Do you partake in the regular dawn-to-dusk fast and feel weak from time to time? Increase your consumption of God’s word. If you work and can afford to listen to messages during times of fasting, put on a message. Otherwise, understand that fasts are times consecrated unto the Lord and how more can you devote yourself to the Lord at such times, if not by diving into the word?
The Prophets Jeremiah and Ezekiel testified to eating the word of God at different times. Jeremiah said, "Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O LORD God of hosts" (Jeremiah 15:16). In Ezekiel 3:3, the Bible accounts, "And He said to me, “Son of man, feed your belly, and fill your stomach with this scroll that I give you.” So I ate, and it was in my mouth like honey in sweetness."
Let this fast be a time to treasure the word of God. Desire something fresh from God as you engage with the Holy Spirit by speaking in tongues and letting Him minister back to you. Follow the scriptural readings that we have curated for you and let the word of God be more important that anything else.
Job 23:12 says, "I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth More than my necessary food."
Let this fast be special in that you will receive something that you can trace back to today in Jesus name. Amen
God bless you.
Faith-Filled Confession
Dear Holy Spirit, today, I treasure the words of the word of God more than my necessary food. I will be inundated with information that will set down the flesh, catalyze a transformation of my mind and elevate me in every area of my life that I so need the elevation of God. I am marvelously helped of the Holy Spirit today and I know I will never be the same. In Jesus' name. Amen
