"[Keep asking] that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him" (Ephesians 1:17).
There are reasons why praying Ephesians 1:17 for yourself and others daily is not to be toyed with. As a matter of fact, your manifestation as a "son of God" is hinged on praying this way. And before I go on to explain who a "son of God" is in the context of today's devotional, I want you to know that the entire world, as it is, is in desperate need of "sons of God."
Romans 8:19 says, "…the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God" (Romans 8:19). In other words, the world is waiting on you to reach that measure of the stature of the son of God.
Now, what does "son of God" mean in the context of attaining its stature? "Son of God" in this context does not mean a male offspring. It means, for the lack of a better word, heir apparent. For example, Prince William is not just the son of the King of England; he is the heir apparent, with recognition and resources of that office. It took years of discipline and timing to attain that office aside from his parentage. In the same way, there is a position of "son of God," and it takes training and timing aside from the fact that God is your parent.
This is why you must continually ask for the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Jesus. But before I get ahead of myself, the Bible lists four things that the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Jesus will do for you in order to attain the stature of the son of God.
In Ephesians 1:18-19, the Bible lists these things as follows. It says, "the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, [and know] what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints and [know] what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power…"
What this means is that as God bestows you with wisdom and understanding in the same knowledge that made Jesus the "Son of God" or His heir apparent, the eyes of your understanding in the things of God will be flooded with light. You will start to become proficient in certain things from the Word of God that are not commonplace. Then, you will gain knowledge of the guarantees of your calling in God. For example, Jesus said aloud to the Father, "I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me" (John 11:42). How did He know? He got that guarantee from the Spirit.
Next, you will know the inheritance or resources designated to your office as the "Son of God." And as a matter of fact, you will operate with these resources bit by bit, in this life and in the next one. One of these inheritances is the use of the name of Jesus. "Then Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk" (Acts 3:6). Such as he had.
The last thing that will happen is that you will achieve an acquaintance with the exceeding greatness of God's power. And it's quite an interesting description because that's the same power that raised Jesus from the dead and set Him at the zenith of all authority. Again, Jesus gave us the secret of how He demonstrated this power. In John 5:19, the Bible accounts, "Then Jesus answered and said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner." As you begin to engage the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Jesus, you will begin to see what the Father wants done in your domain or sphere of influence and experience the urge to do it.
You lose too much if you do not make praying Ephesians 1:17 a daily habit.
May God's face shine on you today.
