A PRAYER JOURNAL

"Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart..." (Luke 18:1)

To properly unpack the parable that Jesus spoke in Luke 18:1 so that its impact can be felt in your life, you will need to come to terms with the import of what was said. The Bible says, "Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart..." (Luke 18:1). Another translation, the Contemporary English Version says, "Jesus told his disciples a story about how they should keep on praying and never give up..." The type of prayer Jesus was advocating is a prayer that is continued until the manifestation is realized.

In the Bible, this type of prayer could be prayed by one person or as a group but its duration is only determined by when you tangibly obtain what you have prayed for. The popular acronym in Christian circles, P.U.S.H for "Pray Until Something Happens," is synonymous with the kind of prayer that Jesus had in mind. In Acts 12, Peter the Apostle had been arrested. The Bible says, "Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church" (Acts 12:5). Based on Jesus' parable, the church prayed without giving up.

The other thing was that this type of prayer must deliver results because it must be based on arguments. We know this because Jesus likened the one praying to a widowed woman and God to a judge with no attachments at all (See Luke 18:2-3). The only thing requested in this prayer was justice against an adversary. So, here is the important thing to note. Are you seeking justice in a case of chronic unemployment, homelessness, illness, debt, addiction, soul-tie, or codependency?

If you are, get into the word of God and look for scriptures that you will put into a journal designated for this kind of prayer. For example, maybe you need some money for a project, look up Psalm 118:25, Philippians 4:19, and 2 Corinthians 9:8 and write them in that journal. These three scriptures will serve as your arguments in God's court to secure the reprieve that you desire. Date it, write the outcome you want, and begin to pray those scriptures, possibly at the same time every day, until you get the money.

When you finally get the money, write down the day you receive it and then, go to another issue. There are things that God wants to use you to accomplish and as you journal the prayer process, you will learn to be more trusting of the parable that Jesus spoke, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart..." (Luke 18:1).
