"Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence." 1Timothy 2:1-2
God has given us the solemn responsibility of praying for leaders and those in authority. And I have often said that it’s impossible to pray for leaders and at the same time, maintain a critical spirit toward them. It makes no difference whether or not we agree with their politics, or whether or not we voted for them. You don’t have to like them or agree with them before you can function in your office as a praying priest. You pray because God commands you to do so. Just like a car would function and carry out its purpose irrespective of who the driver is, so also, we are to pray for our leaders irrespective of who they are.
Remember Jesus' words in John 14:15, “if you love Me, you will keep My commands.” So when you pray today for leaders and those in authority, know that you are declaring your love for Jesus. Think about it this way; they must be precious and important to the divine plan of God for Him to instruct you to pray for them.
So spend today praying for not against political leaders in your nation, especially your local political leaders. Find out there names and pray for them individually.
I will encourage you to start with these prayer points:
Pray for the president, governors, mayors, legislators, council men and women, police officers, and all in authority.
Pray that God will cause our leaders to yield to righteous counsel.
Pray that our leaders will lead with the fear of the Lord in their hearts.
Pray for legislations, policies and reforms that will improve lives and pave the way for righteous causes.
Faith-Filled Confession:
I am grateful for those that God has set in positions of leadership. I will abide by, and not rebel against their godly leading. I will pray for my leaders and I believe that God will use them to promote His righteous cause in my community.
