"This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face. Selah" (Psalm 24:6).
Often, our understanding of a word falls short of God's understanding. This is why it is crucial to seek the Lord in prayer and study the scriptures deeply to grasp His perspective. With God, there is always a higher perspective because He knows the whole truth. Nothing is hidden from Him. Paul writes, "Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out..." (Romans 11:33).
In Psalm 24:6, we find a spiritual identifier: "This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face. Selah." While "Jacob" in Hebrew means supplanter, swindler, or schemer, to God, Jacob signifies a generation of seekers.
Genesis 32:24-25 recounts, "Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day. Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him." Interpreting this scripture through Hosea 12:3-4: "He [Jacob] took his brother [Esau] by the heel in the womb, and in his strength he struggled with God. Yes, he struggled with the Angel and prevailed; He wept and sought favor from Him. He found Him in Bethel, and there He spoke to us—"
What people saw as a supplanter because Jacob took his brother's heel from the womb and later his birthright (Genesis 25:34), God saw as a weeping supplicant who prevailed through tearful supplication.
Our God is not a God of swindlers or schemers but of the weeping seeker. When the Bible refers to "The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers..." (Acts 3:13), "Jacob" signifies a generation of seekers. He says, "Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the LORD, and I will bring you back from your captivity; I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you, says the LORD, and I will bring you to the place from which I cause you to be carried away captive" (Jeremiah 29:12-14).
There is an intensity in seeking that surpasses casual searching. When you seek God, He is your sole focus. The generation of God-seekers, whom the Lord recognizes as Jacob, is distinguished by their intense pursuit of God. This message carries a spirit of supplication; if you push in the spirit, significant shifts will occur today.
James 5:16 AMP says, "Therefore, confess your sins to one another [your false steps, your offenses], and pray for one another, that you may be healed and restored. The heartfelt and persistent prayer of a righteous man (believer) is able to accomplish much [when put into action and made effective by God—it is dynamic and can have tremendous power]." Find a place today where you can be alone and pray as intensely as you can. Seek the Lord, and you will experience Him in a new and profound way.
Have a great day!
Faith-Filled Confession
I am of Jacob, the generation of those who seek the Lord and prevail. I experience the Lord intimately when I pray, knowing that He desires me more than I could ever desire Him. Hallelujah!
