THE SPREAD OF THE GOSPEL

2 Thessalonians 3:1

“As for other matters, brothers and sisters, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you.” 

Acts 19:20

“So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.”

A proper understanding of the place of the gospel in our world will cause us to pray ceaselessly for its propagation. Romans 1:16 tells us that the gospel is the power of God unto salvation for everyone who believes. In other words, without the gospel, no one can be saved—and without salvation, there is no hope for mankind.

The gospel is the doorway into everything Jesus has made available to humanity.

Scripture tells us of a woman named Lydia from the city of Thyatira, of whom it is written, “The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message” (Acts 16:14). It took the power of God for Paul’s message to penetrate Lydia’s heart. This reminds us that the effectiveness of the gospel is not dependent on human eloquence alone, but on divine intervention—an intervention often released through prayer.

When we pray, especially for the Word of God to have maximum impact, hearts are opened, resistance is broken, and people are stirred to receive the truth.

Jesus also made it clear that there is one major event that must precede His return. He said in Matthew 24:14, “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” This means that you and I have a role to play in the return of our Lord—and that role is to ensure the gospel spreads.

The spread of the gospel goes beyond preaching and distributing literature. The physical spread must be preceded by a spiritual spread. We must first birth the advancement of the gospel in prayer before it gains a stronghold in our cities and nations. When we pray for the spread of the gospel, we actively participate in God’s redemptive plan and hasten the return of Jesus.

Prayer Points

• Pray that the gospel will spread rapidly and without hindrance in your community and throughout the world.

• Pray that through the spread of the gospel, many will accept the Lordship of Jesus Christ and that the agenda of God’s Kingdom will advance on the earth.

• Pray that all churches in your community will experience growth, strength, and effectiveness.

• Pray that God will use you in a special way this year to see the gospel advance both locally and globally.

Faith-Filled Confession

I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation. I yield myself to be used by God to ensure that this gospel reaches the ends of the earth.
