DON'T ABANDON THE WAY OF LOVE
10/21/2026
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” — 1 John 4:18
Before you are a pastor, husband, wife, worship leader, doctor, politician, entrepreneur, teacher, or law enforcement officer, you are first a Christian. Your identity in Christ must remain the foundation of every other responsibility God has entrusted to you.
Sadly, in the pursuit of excellence in our various assignments, some have neglected the very character that should define their lives. We see people who once demonstrated the principles of God's Word become harsh with their words, hateful, and hostile toward those who disagree with them. We see pastors competing with one another in the name of church growth instead of celebrating what God is doing through others. We see husbands and wives speaking cruelly to each other simply to win an argument. But none of these behaviors reflects the nature of Christ.
Saints, never allow your responsibilities to overshadow your relationship with God or your desire to walk in love.Your calling, position, influence, and accomplishments are never substitutes for the character of Christ. You can excel in your assignment and still miss the heart of God if you abandon the way of love.
Fear, hatred, and malice are destructive, and we must never justify them as acceptable expressions of our identity in Christ. Perfect love casts out fear, and the love of God enables us to respond to others with grace, even when we disagree or feel wronged. Walking in love does not mean compromising truth or avoiding difficult conversations; it means handling them with humility, patience, and respect.
Today, examine your heart. Are your words and actions reflecting Christ? Are you allowing offense, competition, or the need to prove yourself to dictate how you treat others? Remember, spiritual maturity is not measured only by what you accomplish but also by how you love.
You are a Christian first. Let love govern your heart, guide your words, and shape everything you do. Never become so occupied with your assignment that you forget the character of the One you represent.
Faith-Filled Confession
The love of God is at work in me. I refuse to be ruled by fear, hatred, bitterness, or malice. I walk in love, humility, and grace toward others. In every responsibility entrusted to me, I reflect the character of Christ and honor Him through my words and actions. In Jesus' name, Amen.
