THE ROLE OF YOUR PASTOR

“And I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding” (Jeremiah 3:15).
A pastor is a shepherd that God gives you to help you master His vision for your life. Hear me, not everyone can pastor you and even more importantly, not everyone is anointed by God to do the job.
Next, you cannot appoint a pastor over your life. That’s God’s job and one of the reasons why many Christians try to choose the pastor they will follow is because they lack recognition of their spiritual identity in God. They have no clue of His will for them and so, they walk in error.
Understand that as a member of the kingdom of God, you ought to have specific roles, pursuits and mandates that you are to fulfill. These qualities of your membership of God’s kingdom are not determined by you. God already put them in place.
“But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor” (2 Timothy 2:20). Every vessel in the house of God is purpose-designed. Some purposes are specific to geographical location. Others are specific to activities like evangelism or intercession for certain people groups. However, your pastor is equipped and designated to train you through the process of becoming the vessel that God ordained you to be in His kingdom.
This is why it is important to relate with your pastor in the place of his or her assignment over your life, and not based on personal disposition or demeanour. Too many people have left pastors that God put in place to oversee their maturity because of interpersonal issues, and hence, lost out on God’s best for them, in the process.
Let this soak today, God says, “…I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding”(Jeremiah 3:15). Take God at His word. He has given you pastors to help you become His version of you that He preordained unto His glory.
There is an ultimate destination that God earmarked for you to reach and the Bible describes this place as the attainment of “the faith and knowledge of the Son of God”(Ephesians 4:13). As long as you haven’t attained this God-objective, you need a pastor.
Speaking prophetically, there are ditches and traps that have been placed on your path. You are not supposed to fall into them, if you are paying attention to the Word and the Holy Spirit but if you fall into one of these ditches by your own carelessness, your pastor is ordained by God to bring you out.
Jesus asks, “What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying?” (Matthew 18:12).
Cherish God’s gift of a pastor to you. Don’t despise your pastor. Rather, understand that he or she is called to help you become all that God pre-planned. It’s not a pastor's job to be your friend, even though your pastor may or may not be friendly with you. Hebrews 13:17 says, “…they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.”
Esteem your pastor highly and if somehow, you have become too familiar with the person who happens to be your pastor, let this be a word of caution. Your pastor is God’s watcher over your soul.
Have a blessed day.
