THE LIFE IN CHRIST: A LIFE OF THE TONGUE

12/10/2024

A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, But perverseness in it breaks the spirit." (Proverbs 15:4)

The God-life is lived from your tongue. Think about this life that you have received from God as a mammoth machine capable of producing all kinds of things in this life with the control center situated in your tongue.

The Bible says, “For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. Now if we put the bits into the horses’ mouths so that they will obey us, we direct their whole body as well. Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles!” (James 3:2-5)

Now, it’s not the tongue but it’s function that is all important. And I don’t mean its carnal function of tasting but its spiritual function as the release valve of words.

And here’s why how you use your tongue is all important. Your tongue is how you bring about or stop anything in your life. Jesus said, "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks." (Luke 6:45).

This means that everything, good or bad,  in this world proceeds out of the heart of someone through the tongue. To the man and woman in Christ, the Bible says, "For “He who would love life And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking deceit" (1 Peter 3:10).  To refrain one's tongue from speaking evil and deceit means to say nothing that contradicts the Word of God. It means to use your tongue in a consecrated manner; to say just the things that God has said in His Holy Word.

Child of God, if there's anything the one that is born again must master, it is the tongue. And I dare say that many believe have yet to learn this life-skill in Christ. Just as a newborn learns to sit, crawl, walk and talk, the born-again believer must master talking in conformity with the Word of God. The new creation must master how to use the Word of God to speak in the language of men and angels, otherwise he or she would abuse this beautiful life that they have received from the Father. And this mastering would not happen without rigorous study of the Bible.

The God-life is lived from your tongue. Master your tongue with the Word of God and  you'll master the God-life.

Have a great day.

Faith-Filled Confession

I live the God-life, a life of honor and grace. I think, talk and act in conformity to the life of God that dwells in me, knowing that as the Father has life in Himself, so do I. I am the express image of my Father’s person. Hallelujah!
