Definition: "Staying power is the ability, strength, or endurance to persist and remain effective, popular, or successful through difficult, long-term, or challenging tasks.
“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” (1 Corinthians 15:58)
It is easy to begin something; the real test is finishing it. Apostle Paul instructed Archippus, “Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it” (Colossians 4:17). God is not only interested in our excitement at the start—He is interested in our endurance and consistency. Goosebumps fade, but faithfulness produces fruit.
Jesus illustrated this in the parable of the sower (Matthew 13). Some heard the word and never responded. Others received it and produced fruit. But some began well and then stopped—scorched by pressure or choked by distractions. The issue was never the seed; it was the condition of the soil. In the same way, many begin assignments with enthusiasm but fall away at the first challenge—financial pressure, offense, inconvenience, or delay. This is not a lack of calling; it is a lack of staying power.
Staying power is developed by tending to the soil. You cannot expect lasting fruit without cultivation. This requires intentional adjustments—giving the Word, prayer, and fellowship their rightful place. It also means refusing to rely on human strength. Paul told Timothy, “Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 2:1). Grace is God’s supply for consistency and endurance.
Along the path of stewardship, there will be many opportunities to quit or become inconsistent. But Scripture exhorts us to remain steadfast, immovable, and always abounding in the work of the Lord—knowing that our labor is never in vain. Stay the course. Finish what God has entrusted to you.
God bless you.
Faith-Filled Confession:
I am strengthened by the grace of God. I remain steadfast, consistent, and fruitful in the work the Lord has entrusted to me. I finish my assignment with joy and faithfulness, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
