STAY ALERT: GUARD YOUR GROWTH

9/3/2025

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” — 1 Peter 5:8

Every time God speaks a Word over your life, the enemy moves to oppose it. His aim is simple: to rob God of the glory He seeks to manifest in you and through you. He did this in Eden when he twisted God’s Word to Eve, leading humanity into bondage. He tried the same strategy with Jesus, but failed—because Jesus was watchful and anchored in the Word.

That is why Peter, by the Holy Spirit, warns us: “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8).

God has declared this month as our season of growth. And as always, Satan will attempt to disrupt it. He knows that your growth threatens his agenda and that the expression of the Spirit through your life brings destruction to his works. So expect resistance—discouragement, distractions, drama—designed to derail your growth. But Isaiah 54:15 assures us: “They shall surely gather together, but not by Me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake.” The enemy is programmed to fail—and he will fail in your life, in Jesus’ name!

The Message Bible puts it this way: “Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up.”The enemy only gains ground when we loosen our grip on God’s Word. Jesus taught that while the workers slept, the enemy sowed weeds among the wheat (Matthew 13:25). Sleeping here represents carelessness with the Word—losing consciousness of our identity, speaking fear instead of faith, or confessing weakness, defeat, and hopelessness.

When we say things like, “I just hate my life right now,” we give Satan an entry point. But even when circumstances seem overwhelming, remember: that voice of despair is not from God—it’s the enemy. Shut him down with the Word! Refuse to let negative thoughts or confessions shape your reality.

Beloved, stay spiritually awake. Guard your heart. Fill your mind and mouth with the Word. Growth requires vigilance, and the Spirit is calling you to give yourself fully to the things that nourish your spirit. Yes, Satan will try to distract you—but you are determined. You will grow. You will walk in the character of the Holy Spirit. And you will manifest God’s best for your life this month.

Faith-Filled Confession

I deny access to the adversary by giving myself wholly to God’s Word. The Word grows mightily in me and prevails in every circumstance. I walk in alertness, victory, and the character of the Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
