SERVING OTHERS IS THE SECRET TO PROMOTION

4/16/2025

“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28).

When I read a verse like this “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give His life as a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28) It makes me realize that I have no excuse for not serving  others with all that God has given to me. Come to think of it, If anyone was worthy of being served in Jesus' days, it was Him. Yet, He made Himself a servant of all. He didn’t Lord Himself over anyone. Rather, He sought out opportunities to serve and help. Philippians 2:6-8 says, “Though He was God, He did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, He gave up His divine privileges He took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When He appeared in human form, He humbled Himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.”  It is no wonder that God “…elevated Him to the place of highest honor and gave Him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-10).

This elevated position which Jesus now occupies today was the very position that Lucifer wanted for himself (Isaiah 14:12). And he thought he could attain it by lording himself over others, including Papa God. He failed to realize a simple truth - The way to greatness and relevance is by making oneself nothing for the purpose of making others something. And it only comes through serving others. Jesus said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. But among you, it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave.” It is important to point out that Jesus didn’t serve for the purpose of getting something in return.  Rather, He served out of His love for the Father. He made Himself as nothing because that was God’s will for His life. John 6:38 says “For I have come down from heaven not to do My will but to do the will of Him who sent Me.”

In Philippians 2:5, we read, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” “What mind?” You may ask. It’s a mind of service; serving the needs of others as a way of ministering to the heart of God. When Jesus made Himself of no reputation by serving others, He was ministering to God-- He served God by serving others. Paul the Apostle put it this way; “We loved you so much that we shared with you not only God's Good News but our own lives, too” (1 Thessalonians 2:8). In other words, the motivation for serving the needs of others was from loving God, and that love for God overflowed into serving others.

So I want to encourage you, don’t boss your way around because of your position. Use whatever position you have for the good of others. Don’t desire to be served; rather, let your heart burn with the desire to serve others. And when you serve others, don’t expect anything in return; not even a thank you, because whatever you do, you have done unto the Lord.

God Bless You

Faith Filled Confession

Lord Jesus, I yield myself to serve your purpose today. Open the eyes of my heart to see beyond my immediate need, so you purpose will be done as I give to the needs of others. Amen
