MY REALITY IS GOD’S WORD

4/19/2025

“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18).

Our spiritual upbringings and perspectives are very important in shaping our lives to realize all that God has for us. Many have said, and I have heard people say this, that it doesn't matter what kind of church you go to so long as God is being praised. But my question to these people remain:  How does one determine that God is being praised? Is it by the kind of music that is played or sung? Or is it by the outward display godliness? These factors alone are insufficient to conclude that God is being praised. 2 Timothy 3:5 admonishes us about mere religious acts; it says some “….will hold to an outward form of godliness but deny its power...” I am reminded of what Jesus said to the Samaritan woman in John 4; He said to her, “You Samaritans know very little about the one you worship, while we Jews know all about Him, for salvation comes through the Jews.” And in verse 23, Jesus said, “But the time is coming - indeed it's here now - when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship Him that way.” If the Father is looking for those who would worship Him that way, then, you should only be found in a congregation where God is worshipped that way – in spirit and in truth.

What then does it mean to worship the Father in spirit and in truth? Worshipping the Father in spirit and truth looks like Jesus – full of grace and reality. When you see it, you’d know it. There would be no need for anyone to explain it to you because it would always accord to the triumph of Jesus and the presence of His Spirit. I’ll give you an example. The Bible says “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him out from the dead, you are saved” (Romans 10:9). And still, there are those who would tell you that confessing the Lordship of Jesus and believing in your heart that God raised Him from the dead are not enough to get you saved. My counsel is that you read the Bible for yourself because there are so many things that sound spiritual, but in actuality, they rebel against the reality of the finished work of Jesus Christ. It is astonishing that many of God’s people have held on to these teachings as final revelation without ever opening their Bibles to study for themselves.

In Romans 10:2-3, the Apostle Paul said this about his countrymen, which I believe can be said of so many today: “For I bear witness about them that they have zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For being ignorant of the righteousness of God and seeking to establish the own righteousness, they did not submit to the righteousness of God.” Yes, they had all the outward display but the Father was not in it. It’s good to shout and jump; it’s a great thing to be passionate; but above all that, what God really desires from us is that we submit to His Word. So many today, instead of submitting to God’s Word as final authority concerning salvation, healing, miracles, financial prosperity and so on, have decided to establish their own way of doing life that does not put into account all that Jesus has already done. If Jesus died to take away your sins and pain, then, live as one whose sins and pain have been taken!

Listen, the Word of God is reality. It is tangible and relatable. If you would spend time meditating on the Word, you would come to understand why the Apostle Paul declared in 2 Corinthians 4:17-18, “For our light and temporary affliction is producing for us an eternal glory that far outweighs our troubles. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”  In other words, do not allow a fact become the truth. Irrespective of what you feel, see or hear, your confession of God’s Word must not change because it is REALITY.

God bless you!
