"For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding” (1 Corinthians 14:14-15).
The Bible says that the carnal person cannot receive the things of the Spirit of God, neither can he know it (see 1 Corinthians 2:14). Today’s devotional will make very little sense to the carnal individual who believes in human effort as the basis for success. These people may not vocalize it this way but their actions support the idea of putting in the effort for everything they get. Now while this idea is not a foreign idea, it’s for the unsaved.
The judgment of God for Adam’s treason which extends to all humanity might be found in Genesis 3:15, which is “In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.” Dependence on effort was a judgment on humanity for Adam’s treason, and if that is all you still depend upon, after you have been born again, you are solely shortchanged.
1 Timothy 6:12 says to
“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called, and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” Laying hold on eternal life is the good fight that you fight daily in the forms of meditating on the word of God to mind-meld with God; praying to authorize heaven’s supply to be accessible to you and spiritual constituents on earth and lastly, prophecy to establish God’s will on earth.
In 1 Corinthians 14:15, the Bible gives us a powerful sense of the dynamics of prayer and prophecy. And the idea is this. When you pray about a matter in tongues, you are praying out the answers as soon as you start praying. If you pray long enough for you to get a download into your understanding, you’ll start prophesying the answers in words that you can understand.
Another way to prophesy is to turn the scriptures that provide backing for whatever you are praying about into personalized, faith-filled confessions and speak them forth, every so often.
The principle behind prophesying is found in Isaiah 55:11 which says, “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”
As you prophesy, you are giving vent to God about the matters of life. Hear me, don’t live like the rest of humanity who live by efforts alone. Let the word of God on your lips superintend all your activities. This is the way of the God-kind, and if you are born of God, the scriptures cannot be broken.
Have a great day!
