LAYING HOLD OF ETERNAL LIFE: MEDITATION

06/04/2024

"He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life” (1 John 5:12).

The Bible affirms that if you have Jesus as the Lord of your life, you have the God-life but if you don’t, then the life that you have is the ordinary human life. Now, it completely defeats the purpose of possessing something and not knowing how it works or how to use or deploy it, which is why today's devotional is very important.

To live the ordinary human life, all you have to do is breathe. Every other human function depends on being able to breathe. To live the God-life however, the Bible tells us to do something else. It says to lay hold on eternal life. 1 Timothy 6:12 says, “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”

To lay hold on eternal life means to become convicted of the realities of the unseen truths in order to live them out. To live as God would, if He were physically present on earth, you must not just believe in the realities of the word of God, your belief must translate to absolute conviction. Hebrews 11:1 AMP says “Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses].”

Becoming convicted of the unseen realities of the Word of God begins with meditating on the Word every day. 1 Timothy 4:15 says, “Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all.”

To meditate means to ponder upon, mutter, and or roar specific scriptures that confirm the existence of things that have been guaranteed to you in the Word of God. Meditation opens your soul to take delivery of spiritual realities when you pray and prophesy but I am getting ahead of the subject.

So how often do you meditate? You ask. Twice a day. Psalm 1:1-2 says, “Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.” The way to become convicted about the word of God is to begin meditating on the Word twice daily.

As we begin to learn about what it means to live the God-life, understand that the fight of faith begins in meditation, is seasoned by prayer, and executed by prophecy. Like breathing to human life, these three underpin the workings of the divine life.

So what are you going to do about what you have learned today? Pick two or three scriptures related to a change you want to experience and faithfully begin to meditate on them for the rest of the month at the prescribed frequency. Start by meditating on these scriptures for as little time as 2 minutes and let your meditation time grow from there.

Win big today! God bless you.

Faith-Filled Confession

I have the life of God in me and I lay hold on eternal life through the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart. I live by the word of God, bringing forth my fruits in season and out of season. Hallelujah!
