"And Joseph said to his brethren, ‘I am dying; but God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land to the land of which He swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.’”* (Genesis 50:24)
The fellowship with the Holy Spirit, often referred to as visitation, occurs in various time frames to align with the diverse pursuits, plans, and purposes of God in your life. This includes daily fellowship, where your inner self is continually refreshed with new insights and strength. The Scriptures remind us, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day” (2 Corinthians 4:16). Each day presents new challenges that require the daily renewal of the Holy Spirit through the Scriptures.
This is why daily prayer and Bible reading are essential. These practices ensure that you are equipped to handle the day’s issues effectively. As Jesus said, “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come” (John 16:13). Much like a daily briefing for a high-ranking official, the Holy Spirit can inform you about people, situations, and how to navigate them if you position yourself to receive this guidance.
In addition to daily visitations, there are specialized visitations that God orchestrates for particular times. While daily visitations address your immediate needs, specialized visitations focus on your divine destiny and are marked by distinct messages from God.
Upon receiving a word from the Holy Spirit, your first response should be praise and thanksgiving. The Psalmist instructs, “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name” (Psalm 100:4). This is because receiving the word of God is akin to entering into His presence with gratitude.
Following this, confess the word as if it has already come to pass. Confession helps the word of God take root in your mind and emotions. As Scripture states, “Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls” (James 1:21).
Finally, meditate on the word until it prompts specific actions that bring about the transformation God intends. Joshua 1:8 outlines this process: “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Meditation on God’s word, day and night, will reveal thoughts, action steps, and strategies. Understand that meditation is a form of labor to enter into God’s rest, as stated in Hebrews 4:11: “Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.”
The Holy Spirit and His inspired word are integral to every visitation. Ensure you maintain fellowship with the Holy Spirit through speaking in tongues and engage with His word through thanksgiving, confession, and meditation.
Have a beautiful day!
