INDICATORS OF A DIVINE VISITATION

07/23/2024

"For thus says the LORD: After seventy years are completed at Babylon, I will visit you and perform My good word toward you, and cause you to return to this place." (Jeremiah 29:10)

There are times of God's visitation, and sometimes these visitations may be scheduled outside the realm of your knowledge. Genesis 28:16 says, "Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, 'Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know it.'" Jacob realized after the fact, based on a dream he had, that God was visiting him.

You have a personal responsibility in the matter of divine visitations to respond to God appropriately. Otherwise, the implications could be very costly. Speaking of the cost of not recognizing a divine visitation, Jesus said, "For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side, and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation" (Luke 19:43-44).

So how do you recognize a divine visitation? A visitation is often preceded by difficulty and a strong desire for change. God visited Jacob at Peniel when he was under pressure about meeting his aggrieved elder brother (Genesis 32:20-22). He visited the children of Israel in Egypt while they were in captivity, fulfilling the prophetic word of Joseph (Genesis 50:24). During the Roman siege of Judea, when the Jews had lost their sovereignty to several invading forces, from the Babylonians to the Romans, and were looking for a violent retaking of their nation, God visited His people in the person of Jesus.

Another indicator of a divine visitation is a word of grace from the Lord. Grace is divine ability. This word of God's grace is a sovereign and present statement of the Lord to address a situation, destiny, or agenda that God has earmarked for His visitation. The Lord often comes to you with a scripture or a couple of scriptures by which you can anchor your soul. This word of God's grace issues hope. Hebrews 6:18-19 says, "that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us. This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil..."

In essence, this word—which may come as an instruction, correction, or orientation about God's plan—will produce alignment with the Lord. If you yield to this word, the visitation will produce the transformation that God desires for you. We find an example of this word of God's grace in Genesis 32:28: "And He said, 'Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.'" Jacob's triumph with God through supplication meant that his issue with his elder brother, Esau, was no longer an issue.

Lastly, transformation is the product of a divine visitation when you offer the appropriate reception to the Lord's visitation. A new identity, new abilities, and a destiny upgrade become evident. For example, the disciples of Jesus experienced a type of divine visitation when the Lord asked them to follow Him. "Then He said to them, 'Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men'" (Matthew 4:19). These fishermen ultimately became fishers of men because they yielded to the divine visitation of God to follow His Son.

That said, divine visitations are upon us, personally and corporately. Some have already recognized what is happening, yet others may need some prodding, which is the very purpose of today's devotional. As Job 33:14 says, "For God may speak in one way, or in another, Yet man does not perceive it." Not perceiving God's visitations would cost you dearly, which is why I charge you today to spend some time praying in tongues to heighten your perception of the Lord's presence today. The miracle transformation that you have desired is in what He will say to you, so be sober in your spirit and listen for His voice.

Have an excellent day!
