IN YOU RICHLY

“Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.” (Colossians 3:16)
It is impossible to walk in the light and maintain a lifestyle that contradicts the Word. Yet some excuse inconsistency by saying, “God is still working on me.” While growth is progressive, that statement can become a cover for refusing responsibility. Maturity requires intentional submission to the Word. A lifestyle that contradicts righteousness—unforgiveness, rebellion, constant complaining, self-centeredness, or tolerating what the Word condemns—is evidence that the Word is not dwelling richly within.
David understood this principle. He said, “I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You” (Psalm 119:11). Later he acknowledged, “Before I was afflicted, I went astray; but now I keep Your word” (Psalm 119:67). He did not blame God; he recognized that drifting from the Word brought unnecessary trouble. Restoration began when the Word regained its rightful place.
When you find yourself entertaining thoughts or behaviors that contradict righteousness, do not rationalize them—return to the Word. Colossians 3:16 instructs us to let the Word dwell in us richly—not casually, not occasionally, but abundantly. Everything we do should flow from what is deposited within us.
If worldly influences are becoming more appealing than spiritual things, it is a sign that you are running low spiritually. Without corrective action, compromise will follow. What once grieved you may begin to feel normal. And when corrected, you may perceive it as judgment rather than love. All of this points back to one issue—the Word is not dwelling richly.
Avoid unnecessary failures by abiding in the Word. This does not happen by wishful thinking. It requires deliberate study, meditation, and serious engagement with church fellowship and teaching. If you are battling deep issues, stay in what I call the “Word clinic” until healing manifests. Give the Word time to work in you.
God delights when His Word settles deeply within His children. Make it your priority to know Jesus for yourself.
God bless you.
Faith-Filled Confession:
I give myself wholly to the Word of God. The Word dwells in me richly and governs my thoughts, decisions, and actions. I am dead to unrighteousness and alive to God. I walk in the light and live from my new nature in Christ, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
