“Not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” — Philippians 2:4
Offense is one of the enemy’s favorite tools to divide the body of Christ. You may have loved someone deeply until they said or did something that hurt you, and suddenly, your heart shifted. But saints, when we yield to offense, we open the door to strife and hinder God’s work in our lives.
Jesus gave us the perfect example. When He heard that His ministry was being compared to John’s, He simply left Judea and moved on (John 4:1–3). Some battles are not worth fighting, especially when they threaten your peace and purpose.
Does that mean you should change your job or church every time you sense strife or offense? A thousand times no! That, in fact, could be playing right into the hands of the enemy. If God has planted you in a place and you sense that evil spirit of strife or offense rising, get on your knees until that spirit is driven out in Jesus’ name. But to withdraw, grow cold, or act distant toward others is offensive to God.
If offense arises, don’t withdraw or grow cold—pray until peace reigns in your heart. Be the lover, the peacemaker, the one who refuses to allow division to take root. True peace doesn’t come from silence; it comes from love in action.
People aren’t perfect, but love makes room for their flaws. Let your love be bigger than their weakness.
Faith-Filled Confession
Father, thank You for giving me a heart of love. I choose peace over offense. I bless and celebrate those around me, and I rejoice in their success. My heart is free, my love is strong, and my life is full of grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
