"I will be like the dew to Israel; He shall grow like the lily, And lengthen his roots like Lebanon. His branches shall spread; His beauty shall be like an olive tree, And his fragrance like Lebanon. Those who dwell under his shadow shall return; They shall be revived like grain, And grow like a vine. Their scent shall be like the wine of Lebanon." (Hosea 14:5-7)
God provides many things to His children in Christ. However, one of the things He provides that many often take for granted is a spiritual covering. The imagery that might be most likened to this subject of spiritual covering is an umbrella or shade from a tree. The Psalmist describes it as the secret place or the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1 says, "He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty."
The import of a spiritual covering is that you ought not to be spiritually visible in certain situations. The enemy ought not to be able to decipher your location in the realm of the spirit. For starters, Christ is the foremost covering for our lives as believers. Colossians 3:3 says, "...you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God." You have got to be sensitive about the location of your life so that you do not talk your life out from under yourå covering and become exposed. As an aside, keep your plans and whereabouts under wraps, particularly, when the LORD has not led you to share. Not everything should be for public consumption and social media. So be warned.
For a child of God in an assembly of the saints, your pastor is the covering of God over your life. And how does he or she cover you? Through reproofs, corrections and instructions in righteousness. They provide you with a priesthood which is a form of spiritual covering. This why the Bible says, "Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you." (Hebrews 13:17).
Aside from your pastor, if you still have your parents around or elders in your family or community, God may also use them to provide you with covering spiritually, from time to time. The importance of a spiritual covering is not just so that you are invisible to satanic forces that want to upend your destiny but the LORD uses these coverings to facilitate your spiritual growth and renewal. Hosea 14:7 says, "Those who dwell under his shadow shall return; They shall be revived like grain, And grow like a vine. Their scent shall be like the wine of Lebanon."
Like I said earlier, one of the surefire ways that the LORD provides spiritual covering is through mind-shifting, out-of-the-ordinary instructions. So the next time you receive such an instruction that you are unfamiliar with from someone who has the rule over you, whether it be your pastor, parent and for wives, your husbands, be sensitive to the spiritual covering that God is providing you with and take advantage of it.
Faith-Filled Confession
I am sensitive to the spiritual covering that God has provided me. My thoughts, words and actions align with Christ and every other covering that the LORD has placed me under, in the persons of my pastor, parents and elders. I am hidden from destiny detractors and I experience growth and renewal in every aspect of my life. Hallelujah!
