"Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” (Acts 2:37) One of the ministries of the Holy Spirit is to convict the unsaved. Now, you don't need to come up with a horror story, even though hell and the lake of fire are horrific enough places, to scare people into a decision for Christ. All you need is to flow with the Holy Spirit as He leads you and let Him do His thing. The Bible says, "And when He [the Holy Spirit] has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment" (John 16:8). The word "convict" means to cause to realize or to cause to arrive at one's own conclusion. This means that our job is to preach the gospel and the Holy Spirit's job is to help our hearers arrive at their own conclusion that they need God. In today's theme scripture we see this ministry of the Holy Spirit in full manifestation as the Bible accounts, "Now when they heard this [Peter's Gospel message], they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” (Acts 2:37) Following the conviction of the Holy Spirit, which may often be verbalized or written all over the faces of our hearers, we may then issue a call to action as we are led by the Spirit. However, it is not every time that the conviction of the Holy Spirit will lead to a conversion. Sometimes, the conviction may just be a seed that the Holy Ghost plants for another occasion. That the Holy Spirit convicts the unsaved of sin each time we preach the gospel is not in doubt what is important is that we share the gospel to give Him the opportunity to convict and the unsaved an opportunity to be convicted and possibly led to Christ. As you go about your business be sure to share the gospel because it is the vehicle for the Holy Spirit to minister conviction to the unsaved. God bless you! Faith-Filled Confession I collaborate with the Holy Spirit through the sharing of the gospel to allow Him to convict my hearers and work the miracle of salvation in their hearts. I am also sensitive to His timing in convicting the unsaved immediately or in the process of time such that I am prompt on whether or not to lead them to make the salvation declaration. Hallelujah!
