THE WORD IS MORE THAN ENOUGH

“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” — 2 Corinthians 4:18

It matters what kind of spiritual information you are exposed to. What you hear, learn, and continually receive can shape your convictions, influence your faith, and determine how you relate to God’s Word.

I have heard people say that it does not matter what kind of church you attend, as long as God is being praised. But my question is this: How do you determine whether God is truly being worshipped?

Is it by the kind of music being played or sung? Is it by how passionately people sing, dance, shout, and express themselves? Or is it simply because the congregation appears godly?

While these things may accompany genuine worship, none of them, on their own, establishes that worship is being offered in accordance with God's truth.

In 2 Timothy 3:5, the Apostle Paul warns about people who have “a form of godliness” but deny its power. In other words, outward religious expressions can exist without a genuine submission to the truth and power of God.

Remember what Jesus said to the Samaritan woman in John 4:22–23. He explained that true worship is not merely about religious activity or outward expression. He declared that the time had come when true worshippers would worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such worshippers.

If the Father seeks those who worship Him in spirit and in truth, then we must take seriously the question of where and how we worship Him. We should seek a congregation where the Word of God is faithfully taught, Jesus Christ is exalted, and the Holy Spirit's work is honored.

What, then, does it mean to worship the Father in spirit and in truth?

It means worshipping God in a manner consistent with His nature, His Word, and the revelation of Jesus Christ. True worship is not merely an emotional experience or a religious performance. It is a response to God that flows from the heart and agrees with His truth.

When you encounter genuine worship, its foundation will be consistent with the person and finished work of Jesus Christ. The focus will not be on human traditions, impressive performances, or religious requirements that contradict the gospel.

Consider this example. Romans 10:9 says that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Yet, some people introduce additional requirements that undermine the sufficiency of Christ's finished work. Whenever you encounter such teachings, do not accept them blindly. Open your Bible and examine what the Scriptures actually say.

There are many things that sound spiritual but, in reality, contradict the truth of the gospel. It is concerning that some believers embrace such teachings without taking the time to study God's Word for themselves.

In Romans 10:2–3, Paul described his countrymen as having zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. They were passionate about God, yet they did not understand His righteousness. Instead of submitting to God's righteousness, they sought to establish their own.

How relevant this warning remains today!

People can be passionate, enthusiastic, and deeply committed to religious activities while remaining uninformed about the truth of God's Word. They can shout, jump, sing, and pray fervently, yet resist what Scripture teaches.

There is nothing wrong with shouting, dancing, or expressing your passion for God. These expressions can be beautiful parts of worship. But above all, God desires a heart that believes, receives, and submits to His Word.

Sadly, some believers have embraced their own ideas about the Christian life instead of allowing God's Word to be their final authority. This confusion affects their understanding of salvation, healing, miracles, provision, and their identity in Christ.

We must learn to interpret our experiences in the light of Scripture rather than interpret Scripture solely through our experiences. We must also understand the finished work of Jesus and learn to live in the reality of what He has accomplished for us.

For example, Christ has dealt with the problem of sin through His sacrifice, and those who are in Him have been made new creations (Romans 6:6–11; 2 Corinthians 5:17). This does not mean Christians never experience temptation, struggle, or physical pain. It means that these experiences do not erase what Christ has accomplished or change our identity in Him.

We must therefore refuse to let our experiences become a greater authority than God's Word. Instead, we should continually grow in our understanding of what Christ has accomplished and how that truth shapes our lives.

Child of God, the Word of God is your anchor!

Second Corinthians 4:17–18 teaches us that our present afflictions are temporary when compared with the eternal glory God is working in us. Therefore, we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, because what is seen is temporary, while what is unseen is eternal.

This does not mean that we deny the existence of present difficulties. Rather, we refuse to treat them as the final authority over our lives. We acknowledge the facts before us, but we remain anchored in God's eternal truth.

Your feelings may change. Your circumstances may change. People's opinions may change. But God's Word remains trustworthy.

Do not allow a temporary circumstance to overturn your confidence in what God has spoken. Keep your heart established in His truth, meditate on His Word, and let your confession agree with what He has revealed.

God bless you!

FAITH-FILLED CONFESSION

My eyes are fixed on the eternal realities of God's Word. My faith is anchored in the unfailing promises of my heavenly Father. I refuse to allow temporary circumstances, changing feelings, or the opinions of others to determine my convictions. I submit my thoughts, words, and actions to the truth of God's Word.  Hallelujah!
