STAY AWAKE IN THE SPIRIT AND SPEAK LIFE ONLY

5/15/2025

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8).

Jesus gave a parable about the kingdom which I believe is instructional in this season of our lives. In this parable, Jesus said, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a farmer who planted good seed in his field. But that night as the workers slept, his enemy came and planted weeds among the wheat, then slipped away. When the crop began to grow and produce grain, the weeds also grew.” I want you to observe when the enemy came and planted weed among the wheat; it was when the workers slept. To sleep here means to relax one’s hold on the Word. When we do this, we become careless with our speech. An example is when a believer says, “I don’t care what the Bible says; I am going to do what I have to do.” Mark 4:19 describes it as allowing the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things to choke the word; thereby making it unfruitful. Not only do we allow these things into our hearts, but ultimately we let them proceed out of our mouths.  The Apostle Paul painted a vivid picture of what it means to let the devil in. Ephesians 4:27 says, “For when you are angry, you give a mighty foothold to the devil.” And when the devil gets that foothold, he has only thing on his mind –he sows as many weeds as possible. Weeds here represent unbelief, hopelessness, anger, frustration etc. So, don’t be caught off guard. Stay awake!

1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” I love the way the Message translation puts it. It says, “Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up.” The only time the devil pounces is when you wander away from the Word; when you give in to negative feelings like unhealthy anger, frustration, and depression. Nap time is when your confessions rebel against the reality of Christ; when you confess fear, inability, weakness, uncertainty, lack, sickness, hopelessness, and everything else that contradicts the life and nature of God in Christ Jesus. Someone asks you, “How are you doing?” And you respond with, “I just hate myself” or “my life is over”. Such speech rebels against Christ. Even when it appears as though your life is over, remember this: YOUR LIFE IS NOT OVER. The grace of God is sufficient for you. Pick what you have left and start all over again. GOD HASN’T WRITTEN YOU OFF. So do not let anyone or the devil for that matter beat you up to the point where you are now confessing death over yourself.

Allow me to encourage you today. Do not be discouraged. Refuse to meditate on the wrong information even when everything around you suggests that you are alone and that you would not make it out this time. Be alert and consistently speak God’s Word because the Word that you speak is sure to prevail in your life.

Faith-filled confessions:

I refuse to give a foothold to the adversary. I stand my ground on the immovable Word of God. I choose to dwell on the Word. My thoughts are inundated by the Word. I speak the Word only. The Word increases in me and prevails over every circumstance, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer Point

Ephesians 3:14-19 says, ‘For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according tothe riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to  comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to knowthe love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God’.

1. Pray for saints of God facing challenges in their health, family, finances, ministry, who have become weak in their faith, that they may be restored to strength and be vibrant in the Lord.

Act 10:38 says, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him”. Isaiah 33:24 (NIV) says, “No one living in Zion will say, ”I am ill…”

2. Pray for children who are sick, especially those with mental health challenges, that they receive the good news of divine healing and health in Christ; God’s grace and mercy extended to them for quick recovery and perfection, as the healing power of Christ is manifested in their bodies.

First of all, then I urge that petitions (specific requests), prayers, intercessions (prayers for others) and thanksgivings be offered on behalf of all people, for kings and all who are in (positions of) high authority, so that we may live a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.” 1 Timothy 2:1-2 (AMP)

3. Pray and Declare that the plans of individuals, schools, organizations, whose aim is to influence and pressure our children into ungodliness through tv shows, video games, extra curricular activities or peer group clubs are destroyed.

Declare that their influence is cut off, all their evil plans and strategies directed at our kids come to nothing and all their investments in evil are wasted. In Jesus name.
