“And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed” (Exodus 17:11).
There are certain codes, patterns and call signs in the spirit realm that if used, can elicit certain types of responses in the physical world. To us, these are monikers or pet names that move spirits into action. You don’t necessarily have to understand them but the moment you use one of these monikers, a certain reaction or response is gotten from the spirit realm to reflect in the physical world.
For example, the lifting up of hands is one of the monikers for God. But before we continue, a moniker is a pet name, call sign, or code used to identify a person. When we lift up our hands, we are referring to God as our banner of victory. Hallelujah!
The Bible says in Exodus 17:15 that after Moses (which means, the one borne out of water or the baptized one) had lifted his hands and Joshua (which means, the savior) had vanquished Amalek (the type for the arch-rival who licks blood), “…[he] built an altar and called its name, The-LORD-Is-My-Banner.” Moses built this as a memorial to how God showed up for His people when the moniker of raised hands was deployed.
So, whenever you lift your hands in praise or worship to God about an adverse situation, recognize that as long as your hands are lifted to God, you are declaring Him to be your Banner of Victory! In the spirit realm, you are saying, “Greater is He who is in me, than He that is in the world” and the battle is not mine but yours, oh Lord. (according to 1 John 4:4 and 1 Samuel 17:47).
This is why the Bible says in 1 Timothy 2:8, “I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.” The moment we do this, we are calling out to our Ransomer to take up the fight.
However, here is the important clincher in today’s devotional. Just the way lifting up of hands calls to our Saviour to take the reins in a matter, certain gesticulations, gestures, sounds, and dance moves are the monikers for wicked spirits. As innocuous as they may seem, these verbal or non-verbal monikers call for the expression of certain spirits among people, spaces, and people groups.
Many lascivious behaviors, and feelings of anger, anxiety, or depression have been spread across the world through monikers. This is why we are instructed to “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). Not every social media trend is about fun and games. Some of them are monikers and you have got to be able to discern them for what they are. Otherwise, one would stand the risk of inviting unholy occurrences.
Right now, speak in other tongues, asking the Lord to heighten your sensitivity to the monikers of the spirit world; to know what to avoid, particularly as it pertains to engaging with others online.
Have a blessed day!
Faith-filled Confession
