“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”— 1 Peter 4:10 (NIV)
Heaven has extended to us one of the highest honors: the invitation to share in God's greatest glory—serving people. There is no greater miracle on earth than the transformation of a human life, and we are called to participate in that miracle every day.
Saints, it is the greatest privilege of our lives to serve those for whom Jesus gave His life. We must never let anything—or anyone—talk us out of the opportunity to serve. The Apostle Paul understood this deeply. In his farewell to the elders of Ephesus, he charged them: “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which He hath purchased with His own blood” (Acts 20:28). Paul was essentially saying, “Guard this calling with your life—it matters that much.” Why? Because serving people is the heartbeat of the Father.
Jesus affirmed this in Matthew 25:45: “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to Me.” Paul echoed the same sentiment in Romans 11:13 when he said, “I make much of my ministry.” It brought him great joy to serve others—even at great personal cost. Why? Because he saw his service not as a burden, but as a sacred joy.
This kind of selfless service—putting others before ourselves—is what God desires from us each day. When Mordecai challenged Esther, he said:“If you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place... And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” — Esther 4:14 He was warning her that her position came with purpose—and responsibility. And if she chose not to act, God would still fulfill His plan, but she would miss the opportunity to be part of it.
Jesus echoed this same principle when He said, “Do not say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.” — Matthew 3:9
So I ask you today: Are the lives of those around you improving because of your position, your influence, your platform?Or has it become only about your comfort, your family, your goals?
Esther faced a life-or-death choice—and she didn’t play it safe. She said, “If I perish, I perish.” But doing nothing wasn’t an option. Likewise, Peter reminded the early Church:“Use whatever gift you have received to serve others.” Why? Because some had forgotten. They had become self-focused, forgetting that gifts were given not to elevate themselves, but to uplift others.
Beloved, the grace and gifts of God in your life are not for your benefit alone. They are to serve others. And how you serve matters. Colossians 3:23 says:“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.”
So, the next time you have the opportunity to serve—whether in your church, at your job, in your home—see the face of Jesus in those you serve. Serve as though He is the one receiving from your hands. Because in truth, He is.
God Bless You!
