YOU ARE NOT WHAT YOU DO

You are not what you do. God gave you an identity before He gave you an assignment.

You are not a wife, husband, pastor, doctor, mayor, musician, social media influencer, or a banker. These are positions, roles, and assignments—they are not who you are.

Before you became a wife, you were someone. Before you became a husband, you were someone. Before you became a doctor, pastor, banker, or musician, content creator, you already had an identity.

Your role describes what you do; it does not define who you are.

The danger of confusing your assignment with your identity is that when the assignment changes, you may begin to question who you are. But your identity is deeper than your position. Positions can change. Titles can change. Seasons can change. Assignments can change. But who God created you to be remains.

God wants you to know who you are apart from what you do. Your identity comes before your assignment. Your assignment flows from your identity—it does not create your identity.

Before Jesus began His earthly ministry, the Father affirmed His identity: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased”(Matthew 3:17). Notice the order. The Father declared who Jesus was before He performed a single miracle, preached a sermon, or began His public ministry.

Jesus did not have to accomplish anything to become the Father’s beloved Son. He was loved before He worked. His identity came before His activity.

This is important because we live in a world that often defines people by what they accomplish. We attach identity to titles, positions, careers, achievements, ministry success, possessions, and even the approval of others. But Saint, you are more than what you do. Your assignment is something you carry; it is not who you are.

So, this is the question you must answer; when the position changes, who are you? When the ministry season changes, who are you? When the applause stops, who are you? When you are no longer doing what you used to do, does that mean you are no longer significant?

Child of God, your identity in Christ is not seasonal. It is not dependent on your title, productivity, performance, or people's recognition. You are God’s amazing child. You are loved beyond measure. You are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works (Ephesians 2:10).

When you know who you are, you don't have to compete with anyone. You don't have to constantly prove yourself. You don't have to live for the applause of people. You can faithfully fulfill your assignment without allowing the assignment to become your identity.

Again, your title can and will change. Your role can change. Your career can change. Your responsibilities can change. Even your season can change. But who you are in Christ remains established.

So today, be conscious of your identity. Before you are a pastor, parent, leader, business owner, employee, husband, wife, or anything else you may do, you are God's amazing child.

FAITH-FILLED CONFESSION

I know who I am in Christ. My identity is established in God and is not determined by my achievements, position, title, assignment, or the approval of people. I am God’s beloved child. I am chosen, accepted, loved, and created for His purpose. I do not strive to prove my worth; I serve from the security of knowing who I am. My assignment flows from my identity, and my identity remains secure in Christ. Hallelujah!
