WHO ARE YOU FOLLOWING?

03/05/2023

"That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises" (Hebrews 6:12).

Who you follow is critical in you fulfilling God's purpose for your life. Unfortunately, in this age of social media, many Christians have lost sight of the importance of who they follow. And so, they open their spirits to all kinds of junk and wrong information. They follow secular artists, gospel artists, ministers, politicians, media houses, strangers, etc., regardless of what information they have to share. In this, their spirits feed on all types of food, some healthy but often junk, and we wonder why many are confused. Even with an abundance of information, many have no clear direction in life.

Our opening text says, "That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises" (Hebrews 6:12). In other words, follow those who have correctly applied the principle of faith and patience to access the promises of God. Or better still, follow those who live their lives by God's Word. It teaches us not to follow everyone. Apostle Paul said to the church at Corinth, "Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ" (1 Corinthians 11:1). He admonished the church against following any gospel that was different from what he had preached (2 Corinthians 11:4, Galatians 1:8). Yet, in Christianity today, many of God's people open their spirits to everyone holding a microphone and standing by a pulpit regardless of what they have to say. In 2 Corinthians 11:4, Paul makes it clear that when you listen to a person on spiritual matters, you are not only receiving their words but also their spirits, which is why He was particular about who had their ears.

Saints, in this season, you must be discerning who has your ears. Out of an abundance of the Father's love for you, He has given you a shepherd to guide you. In Jeremiah 3:15, the Lord said, "I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding." Yet, today, many Christians listen to everybody but their pastors. They have materials from every other ministry but the ministry in which God has planted them. In this, they mix their seeds, and when you mix your seeds, your harvest is compromised, and you develop what I call spiritual constipation.

It is the way of infants to eat whatever comes their way. As you mature as a Christian, you must be discerning of what you consume. If you feel inadequate in a particular area, reach out to those anointed over you, and let them guide you on how to improve in those areas. This is not saying that there aren't other ministries doing great things for God, but if you know that God has planted you where you are, your main course meals should be from where you are. If you ever feed outside, it should be occasional and only for desserts because you cannot mature off your neighbor's meals. Your main meals should be from your own home. This is wisdom for the mature.

God bless you.

Faith-Filled Confession:

Father, I thank You for making me a vessel that illuminates and imparts life by the power of the Holy Ghost. Thank You for making me an exhibition of God's perfection. As light, I declare that my life reveals Christ and makes known His saving grace everywhere that I go, in Jesus' name. Amen.
