UNWAVERING FAITH IN PRAYER

7/17/2025

"But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.”—James 1:6–7 (KJV)

The power of prayer is not found in its length or intensity, but in the faith behind it. Faith is the force that gives prayer its effectiveness—faith rooted in the unshakable integrity of God’s Word and in the present truth of Christ’s finished work.

The "present truth" refers to the divine realities now available to us because of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. Until we fully grasp and align with what Christ has already accomplished, our prayers risk being mere rituals—sound without substance.

James makes it clear: When we pray, our faith must be in God alone. Not in God and a backup plan. Not in prayer and people. Just God. Divided faith is wavering faith, and Scripture warns that such a person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Why? Because real faith does not keep options open—it stands fully persuaded on what God has said.

The Living Bible renders James 1:6 this way:"But when you ask Him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver..."

This explains why many never see results in prayer. They may be praying with their mouths, but their hearts are leaning on someone else—a doctor, a bank, a connection. That’s not faith; that’s religion cloaked in fear.

E.M. Bounds once said, “Prayer, as a mere habit or performance, is a dead and rotten thing.” You can’t defeat spiritual opposition with routine prayers. Repeating the Lord’s Prayer over a satanic attack won’t drive demons out. Jesus didn’t say recite the prayer—He said, "Pray after this manner…", giving us a pattern, not a script.

As John G. Lake rightly said, “There’s a mighty lot of difference between saying prayers and praying.” Saying prayers is religious. Praying is spiritual. Saying prayers doesn’t move mountains. Praying in faith does.

Real faith does not stagger. Hebrews 11:6 reminds us, “Without faith it is impossible to please Him…” God is not moved by need, emotion, or routine. He is moved by faith in His Word. Faith is confident trust that God will do what He has already declared in Christ.

When you pray, make it count. Let it be backed by revelation. Speak in alignment with the Word. Boldly declare what is yours in Christ, and expect answers without doubt or hesitation. That’s the prayer that prevails.

Faith-Filled Confession

Father, in the name of the Lord Jesus, I thank You that Your glory is upon me today. Your divine life is working in every cell, every bone, and every organ of my body. I walk in supernatural wisdom and uncommon favor. I do not lack any good thing today. I pray in faith, I live by faith, and I rejoice in Your finished work. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
