UNMOVABLE IN THE MIDST OF TESTS AND TRIALS

“Going a little farther, He fell with His face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.” (Matthew 26:39)

Every genuine elevation in life is preceded by a season of contradictions and oppositions to the will of God for your life. These oppositions are essential for growth and progress; hence, it is unwise to pray them away. To pray them away will be to pray away your promotion. I have seen people miss out on God’s best for their life simply because they passed their cup to someone else instead of drinking of it.  When this happens, the one who gets the promotion is the one who received the cup and drank of it. Jesus is our great example. He had the option of passing on His cup, but instead of doing that, He voluntarily submitted His will to the will of His father. He said to His Father, "Father, if You are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from Me. Yet I want Your will to be done, not Mine.”

Here was a spiritual moment which was going to define the realities of heaven, earth, and hell for eternity. It was a moment that was set to shift the seat of power and authority in all three realms, and Jesus was at the center of it all. His decision to let go and let God was going to forever change the way Heaven viewed man and was going to put Satan at bay forever in relation to the new creation. As divine and as epoch as this moment was, it came down to Jesus’ choice; His decision to say no to the flesh and to say yes to God. 

I do understand that some of the contradictions and oppositions you face will feel overwhelming, and maybe you have felt that way for some time now and you see no end in sight. You may have your emotions discombobulated as a result, not knowing if it is still worth it to stick with God’s will or to go with your own will.  If this describes you, know that you are just fine. It is not wrong to feel this way. But at the same time, you must not entertain these thoughts for long. Like Jesus, rid your heart of them quickly! Jesus may have gotten a little emotional about the cup before Him, but instantly, He rejected that thought and opted for God’s will even when every fiber of His flesh was saying “don’t do it.”  I believe He kept saying to Himself, “I choose God’s will” and then, He acted out His faith in the Word by drinking of the cup. Had Jesus not overcome His own emotions in the garden of Gethsemane, it would have been impossible for Him to overcome Satan's rulership over the world and the souls of men. This tells us one thing: the biggest tests are always preceded by little, insignificant tests which we encounter daily. Many of these tests have to do with self: your emotions, desires, pride, selfishness, insecurities, patience, your ability to forgive quickly and how willing you are to let go and let God have His way even if it means losing everything. 

Saint, abandoning  your will for God’s will is the way to victory and elevation, so stand firm in the midst of trials and tests.
