UNCONDITIONAL FORGIVENESS

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” — Ephesians 4:32

I still remember it like it was yesterday. The family of the driver who caused my father’s death came to our house to ask for forgiveness.

Drenched in pain, I couldn’t look them in the face. I walked out of their presence and cried myself out for almost 30 minutes. Nothing in me wanted to forgive them. But the Lord kept pressing on my spirit to forgive and release them.

Eventually, I gave in to God. I walked back out and said to them, “I FORGIVE YOU FOR MY FATHER’S DEATH. YOU GUYS CAN GO.” And they left.

That was 19 years ago.

Forgiveness is not for the ordinary person. It takes God to genuinely forgive people. Some of you may be struggling with this That’s why you have to invite God to help you. 

As believers, we are called to forgive—not because the other person deserves it, but because we have received forgiveness from Christ. Meaning, give what you where given. 

Sometimes people hurt us deeply. They disappoint us, betray our trust, say things they should not say, or do things we never expected. Yet Jesus calls us to forgive.

FORGIVENESS IS NOT ALWAYS A FEELING; IT IS A DECISION.

When you forgive, you are not saying that what happened was acceptable. You are choosing not to allow the offense to control your heart, your joy, or your future.

Jesus demonstrated this kind of forgiveness on the cross. Even while He was being crucified, He said:

“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” — Luke 23:34

That is unconditional forgiveness.

Don't wait until you feel like forgiving. Don't wait for an apology. Don't wait for them to recognize what they did. Forgive because Christ has forgiven you.

Unforgiveness will keep you connected to the pain of the past. It will destroy your health, weaken your faith, destroy your confidence in God but forgiveness releases you to walk freely into the future God has prepared for you.

LET IT GO! Are you hearing me? LET IT GO!

You cannot change what happened, but you can decide what you will carry forward.

Forgive quickly. Better still, forgive them in advance. Protect your heart from bitterness, and allow the love of Christ to flow through you.

Today, make the decision to forgive. Your freedom, health, and prosperity are more important than your offense.

I will tell you this: You are too blessed to be bound by bitterness. You are too called to be controlled by offense. Let forgiveness have its way in your heart. In Jesus name!

FAITH-FILLED CONFESSION

I choose to forgive as Christ has forgiven me. I refuse to hold on to bitterness, resentment, anger, or offense. I release every person who has hurt me into the hands of God. My heart is free, my spirit is clean, and my love is flowing.
