THE WILES OF THE ENEMY: UNGODLY COUNSEL

09/20/2023

"Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful, But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night." (Psalm 1:1-2)

If he has tried everything else and failed, one of the enemy's wiles is to enter into the mouths of people around you, familiar people, including authority figures to give you the counsel of the ungodly. Please don't fall for it, and don't be confrontational with the person offering suggestions that contradict the scriptures. Ephesians 6:12 says, "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."

The technology for this assault is shown to us in 1 Kings 22:20-22, where the Bible says, "And the LORD said, 'Who will persuade Ahab to go up, that he may fall at Ramoth Gilead?' So one spoke in this manner, and another spoke in that manner. Then a spirit came forward and stood before the LORD, and said, 'I will persuade him.' The LORD said to him, 'In what way?' So he said, 'I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' And the LORD said, 'You shall persuade him, and also prevail. Go out and do so.'" The enemy can go as a lying spirit into the mouths of people around you to try to normalize evil. It is a trap. Proverbs 1:10 says, "My son, if sinners entice you, Do not consent."

One way to deal with this assault of the enemy is to meditate on the Word constantly. Psalm 1:2 gives us the antidote to this wile of the enemy. It says, "But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night."

Another way to deal with this assault is to rebuke the spirit and not the person. When Satan became a lying spirit in Peter's mouth and began to speak through him to Jesus, the Master had an effective response. Matthew 16:33 tells us, "But He [Jesus] turned and said to Peter, "Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men." The enemy is so used to having his way that he can't stand being resisted by your submission to God's Word instead of his lies. James 4:7 says, "Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

So, as people become obnoxious with their words, offering advice that does not align with scripture, recognize who is at work and catch him in his tracks.

You will prevail today! In Jesus' name. Amen.

Faith-filled Confession

The Word of God has been made unto me wisdom. Therefore, I act wisely, bringing to naught all the wiles of the enemy. I am victorious because the One in me is greater than he that is in the world. Hallelujah!
