"Now the cities of the tribe of the children of Benjamin, according to their families, were... Bethel." (Joshua 18:22-23)
The tribe of Benjamin is a foreshadowing of the Church of Jesus Christ. The Prophet Jacob prophesied about Benjamin saying, "Benjamin is a ravenous wolf; In the morning he shall devour the prey, And at night he shall divide the spoil” (Genesis 49:27). This is the exact destiny of the Church, to rule and reign in the natural and supernatural realms, and maintain decision-making authority through the name of Jesus.
In previous devotionals, we have established that cities are representative of people with different qualities. So the twelve cities of the Tribe of Benjamin refer to the twelve qualities that believers must embody to fulfill the destiny of the Church. The sixth city of the tribe of Benjamin is Bethel which in Hebrew means, the house of God or place of God's dwelling.
In a sense, to rule and reign as God designed, the believer must embody being the house or temple of God. In plainer terms, the Christian must maintain a consciousness that he or she is God's domicile. 1 Corinthians 6:19 says, "Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?" This Greek word translated "know" here, implies being conscious of the indwelling of God through extended fellowship. This knowledge is experiential.
Bethel, therefore, refers to those believers who have and maintain a consciousness of being God's home. So how do you embody this consciousness? Through meditation on the Word of God and ministering to the Holy Spirit. When you meditate on the Word, you are acknowledging everything good thing that is in you by Christ Jesus (according to Philemon 6) and when you minister to the Lord (according to Acts 13:2), you are speaking or singing in tongues in a way that prioritizes God's agenda completely.
The saints who meditate on the indwelling of God and minister to Him earmark themselves for triumph in every sphere of life. They are the House of God offering spiritual sacrifices as declared in 1 Peter 2:5, "you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ."
Have a blessed day
Faith-Filled Confession
I am the temple of the Lord God. And in His temple, I minister to the Lord, singing, praying, and prophesying the things that He will have me sing, pray and prophesy. I am invincible and indomitable in the affairs of this life. And all that I do, succeeds with the magnitude of God's success. Hallelujah!
