THE TRIBE OF BENJAMIN: THE CITY OF FRAGRANCE

"Now the cities of the tribe of the sons of Benjamin according to their families were Jericho and Beth-hoglah and Emek-keziz..." (Joshua 18:21)

The scriptures were written for us to dig and search out. Proverbs 25:2 says, "It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter." And all through the Bible, there are gems that, if discovered, bequeath the vitality of kings, even though you already have the status of a king if you are born-again (according to Revelations 1:5-6). It is one thing to have the status of a king and another, to live in the vitality of your status. 

That said, it is important to remember that the Tribe of Benjamin is a foreshadowing of the Church of Jesus Christ. The prophetic destiny of the Tribe of Benjamin is the present-hour reality of the Church, which is that: "Benjamin is a ravenous wolf; In the morning he shall devour the prey, And at night he shall divide the spoil" (Genesis 49:27). In simpler Bible imagery, the Tribe of Benjamin as the Church is a meditating, tongue-talking, prophesying and preaching group of individuals with an ability to exercise influence in both the earthly and heavenly realms. The Church is the only force today that is able to overrun the kingdom of darkness and spoil it of its human resources through the gospel of Jesus Christ. 

In today's theme scripture, we are confronted by more prophetic language. The Bible says, "Now the cities of the tribe of the sons of Benjamin according to their families were Jericho..." (Joshua 18:21). First of all, a city in Bible lingo means, an assembly of people (Refer to Psalm 87:3; Hebrew 11:10). So when the Bible speaks of the cities of the Tribe of Benjamin, it is telling us about different assemblies of people in the Body of Christ based on certain qualities. The cities of the Tribe of Benjamin are an allegory of the kind of assembly of people that we ought to be. 

First of all, there are twelve cities in the Tribe of Benjamin and the first is Jericho or the City of Fragrance. In other words, the Church of Jesus Christ is a people of sweet spiritual fragrance to God. 2 Corinthians 2:14 says, "Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place." This fragrance is diffused in every place and every time we share the gospel with others. A fragrance in the realm of the spirit is a testimony. And so when the city of Jericho is listed as the first of all the cities of the Tribe of Benjamin, God is saying to us that we are first a people of testimony.

And when we say testimony, I am not referring to the testimonies we share after we have received a miracle, no. The testimony, here referenced, are testimonies of the word of God. Confessions of the word. To this effect, make time blocks to just talk the word of God in your closet because of the fragrance that it releases all over your life spiritually. And you can't be casual about it. Hear me, Satan also has bad fragrances that he merchandises and these are accusations and lies that he tries to get you and others to endorse about you. The more you dispense God's fragrance, the less the enemy's fragrance will be able to hold sway over your life.

So, always be ready to dispense God's testimony concerning you. Great things are spoken of you o city of God. It is now time to speak forth these things and let the fragrance of victory and success saturate the spiritual atmosphere around you until nothing the enemy throws at you sticks.

Faith-Filled Confession

I am the city of God's fragrance. Great things are declared by God concerning me. Therefore, I testify of the wonders of God's name and of His victory so much that everywhere I go, miracles, signs, and wonders accompany me. In Jesus' name. Amen.
