THE TRIBE OF BENJAMIN

And so it was, as her[Rachel] soul was departing (for she died), that she called his name Ben-Oni; but his father called him Benjamin." (Genesis 35:18)

There is no meaningless verse in the Bible. Interestingly, 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says  "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

In today's theme scripture, we see two births; the biological birth which was facilitated by a mother, Rachel and the spiritual birth which was facilitated by a father, Israel. John 3:6 says, "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit."

Now, there can be no spiritual birth without biological birth. Benjamin then, is a type of the born-again believer. The Bible says, "Man who is born of woman Is of few days and full of trouble" (Job 14:1). Rachel called him, "Ben-Oni" or "son of my pain" to imply that, the ordinary cause of the biological life is subject to the elements and by extension, subject to pain and painful experiences. 

However, the spiritual birth elevated Ben-Oni to Benjamin or "son of my right hand" by the pronouncement of his father, Israel. The Bible says of us who have been born again that we have been"...raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus," Therefore, like Benjamin to Israel, we are the sons of God's right hand. And at God's right hand, we are "far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come." (Ephesians 1:21). God's Benjamin is not subject to pain and the elements, rather he or she is lord over pain and everything that is named.

In the context of the scriptures, Benjamin has a life plan that has no bearing on his former life as Ben-Oni. 2 Corinthians 5:17-18 says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation"

In Genesis 49:27, the Patriarch prophesies "Benjamin is a ravenous wolf; In the morning he shall devour the prey, And at night he shall divide the spoil.” Benjamin is called to reign in two dimensions and two ages. The morning is both representative of your life here on earth and this current Church age. It encapsulates your current contemporality.  The night, on the other hand, represents the spirit realm and the age to come. It is a composite of everything that is outside the scope of your present contemporality. In both contexts, God's Benjamin is called to live victoriously. 

See, if there is any area where you have experienced rejection or defeat, you are the son of God's right hand. At this moment, act who you are and start making decrees in the name of Jesus for Benjamin is a ravenous wolf destiny to rule and reign.

I am God's Benjamin. The son of His right hand. I am destined to rule and reign in this life and in the world to come. Therefore, I reign by the sovereign decrees of God's word. What I say for the establishment of my Father on earth comes to pass. In Jesus' name. Amen.
