“Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.’” — Matthew 9:37–38
When Jesus looked at the crowds, He did not just see people—He saw a harvest. The Bible tells us that He was moved with compassion because the people were weary, scattered, and like sheep without a shepherd. His heart broke for them.
Then Jesus made a powerful statement: “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.”
The problem was not the harvest. The problem was the lack of workers.
There are many people around us who need hope, truth, love, and salvation. They may look successful on the outside, but many are spiritually lost, hurting, and searching for answers. God desires to reach them, but He chooses to do it through willing servants.
Jesus’ first instruction was not simply to go, but to pray. Prayer aligns our hearts with God’s heart for people. When we pray for laborers, God often begins to stir our own hearts to become part of the answer to that prayer.
The Kingdom of God advances when believers are willing to step forward—to serve, to share the gospel, to encourage the broken, and to demonstrate Christ’s love in practical ways.
In this season, God is still calling for laborers. The harvest is still plentiful. The question is: Will we respond?
Ask the Lord today to open your eyes to the people around you who need His love. Be willing to serve where He places you. Sometimes the very person praying for laborers becomes the laborer God sends.
Faith-Filled Confession:
Father, I thank You for the harvest of souls. My heart is filled with compassion for those who do not yet know You. I am willing to be used by You. Send me where You desire, and use my life to bring hope, truth, and salvation to others. I am a laborer in Your harvest field, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
