“Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.” – Matthew 20:26
The world defines greatness by power, position, wealth, and recognition. People often measure success by how many others serve them. But in the Kingdom of God, greatness is defined very differently. Jesus taught that true greatness is found in serving others.
In Matthew 20:26, Jesus corrected the mindset of His disciples who were thinking about status and rank. He explained that anyone who desires to be great in God’s Kingdom must first become a servant. This means choosing humility over pride and placing the needs of others before personal recognition.
Serving is not a sign of weakness; it is a reflection of Christ’s character. Jesus Himself demonstrated this truth throughout His ministry. He healed the sick, fed the hungry, washed the feet of His disciples, and ultimately gave His life for humanity. The King of kings chose the path of a servant.
When we serve others with the right heart, we align ourselves with God’s purpose. Our service becomes an act of worship, and through it God touches lives, strengthens His church, and reveals His love to the world.
Today, choose the path of true greatness. Serve with humility, love, and faithfulness. What may seem small to others is precious in God’s sight.
Faith-Filled Confession:
I walk in the spirit of humility and service. I follow the example of Christ and serve others with love and faithfulness. My life reflects the heart of a servant, and through my service God is glorified. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
