THE GOSPEL OF GOD

10/29/2023

"…the gospel he [God] promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 1:2-4 NIV)

The believer is legally separated unto the gospel of God. The issue is he or she may not know this separation vitally, and, as such, may live life misguided. Separation in this instance, means that one's manner of life, speech, and action is oriented by the gospel of God. Now, there are many gospels. Gospel in its literal sense, means good news or good profession. However, the gospel that orients the believer is the gospel of God and what this means is explained to us in our opening text.

The good news of God has a central character and His name is Jesus. Colossians 1:16 tells us that "... by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him." In other words, He is King in every realm. His earthly claim to this world as the seed of David, who in turn is the seed of Abraham implies that He is as you are. Hebrews 4:15 tells us that "...we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin." This is the gospel of God. Because, as High Priest, His job was to bring us to His level. And John declares, "Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world." Saints, we are as He is right now in this world! Hallelujah!

The other thing the Gospel of God indicates is the good news of our potential. The Bible declares that Jesus was appointed the Son of God. In a sense, this may sound semantic but it is not. The Bible declares that Jesus "...made himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name..." (Philippians 2:7-9). He did that for you. By Himself, He had attained the status of Son of God as recorded at His baptism (Matthew 3:17) and transfiguration (Matthew 17:5). But so that you too could attain this status, He performed the requirements and fulfilled the demands pertaining to your elevation.

Romans 8:29 says, "For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren." He is the first Son of God and you have been conformed to that image. The big question is, will you fill the opening He has made for you?

As you meditate on these thoughts today, let the Holy Spirit overtake your mind and illuminate it with possibilities. Let the Gospel of God orient you and see Him transform you into what He is.

Have a great day!

Faith-Filled Confession

I have been conformed to the image of the Son of God and I will fulfill the destiny that I have been designated to fulfill in this life and the next. Hallelujah!
