THE FELLOWSHIP OF MEMORY

05/05/2023

"You shall eat no leavened bread with it; seven days you shall eat unleavened bread with it, that is, the bread of affliction (for you came out of the land of Egypt in haste), that you may remember the day in which you came out of the land of Egypt all the days of your life." (Deuteronomy 16:3)

There is a reason God gave you a memory and it wasn't for you to remember the mistakes or sins that you committed in the past, no. He gave you your memory for fellowship. In today's theme scripture, we see the Lord instruct His elect to fellowship with Him for seven days by memorializing how He delivered them from the house of bondage. Why? Because the fellowship of memory always affirms the identity of His elect as separate from the rest of the world.

In the New Testament, God also expects His elect to fellowship with Him by actively memorializing certain things. For example, when we partake of the Lord's Supper, we do not do it as a tradition but in remembrance of our Lord's death, burial, and resurrection. And we are instructed by the Lord to partake for the exact reason of fellowshipping with Him by memory.

In 1 Corinthians 11:24-25, the Bible recounts, "and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same manner, He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” When we solemnly take the holy communion, we are declaring our complete alignment of identity with the Son of God according to Romans 6:4 which states, "Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life."

In John 15:20, Jesus said, "Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also." When you face persecution, Jesus says to fellowship with this memory because of its power to ground you in the truth that it is okay for people to say evil about you and act maliciously toward you. If they did it to Jesus, they are permitted to do it to you. What an honour! As a matter of fact, the apostles, after they had been arrested, flogged, and released by the Sanhedrin, were found "rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name." (Acts 5:41)

Today, the Lord is prompting you to use your memory to fellowship with Him and He has told you how. Therefore, I charge you to meditate on this devotional. Break bread and take the cup, recognizing that as He is, so are you in this world. And nothing in this world that has come against you can hold out successful as you ground yourself in your divine identity.

Have a fantastic day.

Faith-Filled Confession

As Jesus is, so am I in this world. I am a sharer in His life, dominion, and ministry. Therefore, I am invincible and when I invoke the name of Jesus, the authority I wield is perfect and without dispute, effective to produce results in whatever the situation, context, or spiritual jurisdiction. In Jesus' name. Amen
