“Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.” – John 13:14–15
In John 13, Jesus did something that shocked His disciples. The One they called Lord and Teacher took a towel, knelt down, and began washing their feet. In those days, washing feet was the task of the lowest servant in the house. Yet Jesus willingly humbled Himself to serve.
This moment was more than an act of kindness—it was a powerful lesson. Jesus was showing His disciples that true greatness in God’s Kingdom is found in humble service. If the Master could serve, then no believer is above serving others.
Many people desire recognition, titles, and positions, but Jesus demonstrated that leadership in God’s Kingdom begins with humility. The measure of a servant of God is not how many people serve them, but how willing they are to serve others.
Jesus said, “I have set you an example.” Our calling is not only to admire Christ but to imitate Him. We are to carry the same spirit of humility, love, and service in our daily lives—serving our families, our church, our communities, and even those who may never be able to repay us.
When we serve others with a sincere heart, we reflect the character of Christ. Acts of service—whether big or small—become expressions of God’s love to the world.
Today, ask yourself: Who can I serve today? It may be through encouragement, helping someone in need, or simply showing kindness. When you serve with humility, you are walking in the footsteps of Jesus.
Faith-Filled Confession:
Today I follow the example of Jesus. I walk in humility and serve others with love. My heart is free from pride and selfish ambition. Through my life, the love of Christ is revealed. I am a servant in God’s Kingdom, bringing glory to Him in all that I do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
