Colossians 1:9–10
“For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.”
Ephesians 4:13–15
“Till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ.”
The most dangerous person on the face of the earth is not an extremist or a deranged individual plotting violence. The most dangerous person is a Christian with no hunger for God. A genuine hunger for God is the first and most critical step toward spiritual growth and maturity.
Contrary to popular belief, being religious is not the same as being spiritually mature. Many of the challenges facing our society today are the result of believers who lack spiritual growth—believers who do not know who they are or what they carry. When God’s people fail to take their place as kings and priests, the land becomes vulnerable to all kinds of distress, because God chooses to work through His people.
Amos 3:7 tells us, “Surely the Sovereign Lord does nothing without revealing His plan to His servants the prophets.” God always intends to involve you in His purposes. However, for Him to effectively accomplish His work through you, you must cultivate a hunger for Him.
God’s plan for your life did not end with salvation—though salvation is foundational and glorious. His desire is also that you grow and mature in Him, and this happens primarily through His Word. The Word of God is the instrument of spiritual growth. Daily fellowship with the Word is essential. As you meditate on it, your mind is renewed (Romans 12:2), enabling you to grow in all things and walk in the full reality of who you are and what you possess in Christ (Ephesians 4:15).
This year, growth in Christ will be essential to the expression of His greatness in your life.
