REPENTANCE FROM DEAD WORKS

06/22/2023

"Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God..." (Hebrews 6:1)

Every disciple of Jesus Christ must grasp the subject of repentance from dead works to mature spiritually. To repent means to have a change of mind or heart about something. Now, when you became born again, you received a new mind to create beautiful things and disallow evil. 1 Corinthians 2:16 says, "For "who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?" But we have the mind of Christ." In other words, while unbelievers may not be able to say no to certain sinful proclivities, you have a mind that is powerful enough to refuse the lures of this world.

Dead works, on the other hand, are unfruitful words and actions. These unfruitful works are captured in Galatians 5:19-21 where it says, "Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God." In essence, the principle of repentance from dead works says that you have a new super-mind that can say no to dead works.

The Word of God says, "...have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them" (Ephesians 5:11) because you can. But I hear someone say, "i have tried to fight off this or that habit without success." Hear me; there is a way to win the battle, and it is in your mind. Romans 12:3 says, "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."

You renew your mind through a mix of meditation and speaking in other tongues. Starting with meditation at the very basics, repentance from dead works means acknowledging and using our minds of Christ to process every information in our daily lives. As the Holy Ghost instructs through Paul, he writes, "Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things" (Philippians 4:8).

Saints, you have the mind of Christ; the same mind that created this planet and the entire solar system. This mind is your possession to dominate temptations as they arise. However, you have to practice to become proficient at using it. We will pick this up tomorrow.

God bless you.

Faith-Filled Confession

I have the mind of Christ. With this mind, I learn to exercise dominion over my soul and body for the glory of God. This mind elevates me in everything I do, magnetizing success, promotion and supernatural growth to me in Jesus' name. Amen.
