READ AND FOLLOW THE SIGN

12/26/2023

"Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision" (Philippians 3:2)

Recently, I came across a report about a tragic incident involving a man who lost his life and the entire family in another vehicle due to a head-on collision. The cause? He neglected to heed the posted "ONE WAY" sign. Such incidents occur daily worldwide. Signs are strategically placed for our safety and that of others. Many accidents could be prevented by simply following these posted signs. Unfortunately, some individuals have become accustomed to ignoring certain signs, perceiving no immediate consequences. For example, it's common to see people enter a building through the exit or exit through the entry door despite clear signs advising otherwise. Many read these signs and dismiss them, thinking, "What's the big deal if I enter either way?" While one may escape repercussions for disregarding these physical signs, neglecting spiritual signs might not be as forgiving!

Philippians 3:2 is one of such spiritual signs. It says, "Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision." In issuing this warning, the Apostle Paul is cautioning those entering the kingdom: "There are 'dogs' in here, so be on guard!" In essence, he urges believers not to let their guard down simply because they are within the community of believers. There are individuals within the body of Christ who, if allowed, can divert one's destiny in Christ. The Amplified version enhances the understanding: "Look out for those dogs [Judaizers, legalists], look out for those mischief-makers, look out for those who mutilate the flesh." By using the term "dogs," Paul refers to individuals with a semblance of godliness but, through their words and actions, obstruct the manifestation of the power of God.

These cautionary signs within the Kingdom of God are vital because certain conversations, even by mere participation, can significantly impact one's destiny. Proverbs 6:16 states, "There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to Him." The seventh is creating an atmosphere for offense to flourish. Even if you haven't directly spoken, the failure to redirect attention to the Word makes you an active participant. Without corrective action through repentance, apology, or restitution, one's destiny may face severe consequences akin to the fate of Miriam. When viewed through the Spirit, some seemingly harmless and factual conversations can act as destiny killers. A poignant example is found in Miriam's exchange with Aaron. They questioned, "Has the Lord spoken only through Moses? Hasn't He also spoken through us?" While it's true that God spoke through Miriam, her words were critical of Moses' leadership, which was inexcusable in God's eyes.

Child of God, exercise caution around individuals who habitually complain about everything and everyone. Be vigilant in your interactions with such people. Beware of those who act as "dogs" - Judaizers, legalists, and mischief-makers. Pray earnestly that they may come to the knowledge of the truth. However, be cautious not to engage in or partake in their sinful ways.

God bless you!
