"Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men," (1 Timothy 2:1)
One of the strategies of the enemy to plunder God's people is to attack their spiritual leaders. Hear me, the enemy understands Zechariah 13:7 which says, "...Strike the Shepherd, And the sheep will be scattered; Then I will turn My hand against the little ones."
So you must make it a point of duty to pray for God's gifts of leadership over your life. Make no mistakes about it, the enemy will stop at nothing to deprive you of any good and perfect gift that you have received from the Lord including your pastor and spiritual leaders because, without them, you are exposed.
When God gave you a man or woman of God, He installed a watcher over your soul. And yes the Bible says to submit to them (according to Hebrews 13:17) in the capacity they occupy over your soul but it is also important not to be careless with the gift that they are from God to you.
This is why you must know how to pray for them. When you pray, pray for their physical safety. 2 Thessalonians 3:2 NLT says, "Pray, too, that we will be rescued from wicked and evil people, for not everyone is a believer." Pray, declaring that your leaders are safeguarded from demon-influenced people who are haters of the gospel.
Next pray, pray for them against satanic manipulations that could cause them to make the wrong decisions in the area of their oversight of God's people.
1 Chronicles 21:1 says, "Now Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel." The enemy wanted to harm Israel but he incited its leader to violate God's word in his capacity as King of Israel. Interestingly, David must have presumed the request to number Israel was from God. How do we know this? 2 Samuel 24:1 says, "Again the anger of the LORD was aroused against Israel, and He moved David against them to say, “Go, number Israel and Judah.” Now these two scriptures seem to contradict themselves. One says Satan incited David and the other says, God moved David. However, we know from scripture, in 2 Corinthians 11:14 that "...Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light" and thereby could deceive and incite a leader who is not sensitive to make a mistake or omission that could impact you negatively.
Lastly, pray for your leaders that utterance is granted to them, particularly in the area of their ministry to you and others. Understand that ministry is not just preaching, teaching or interceding, it is the conveyance of truth from God to you and it is very sacred. Therefore when you pray, pray that utterance may be given to them, that they may open their mouths boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, (according to Ephesians 6:19)
Pray for your spiritual leaders now.
Have a beautiful day!
