"Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity" (1 Timothy 2:2).
God has not called us to pray, so that we can say that we prayed. Instead, He has called us to pray because, without our prayers, He cannot intervene in the earth. It is by the prayer of the saints that the will of God is established in the cities and nations of the world. In teaching His disciples to pray, Jesus told them to say: "Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven" (Matthew 6:10).
God's will for our communities and leaders can only be realized when we pray. 1 Timothy 2:1-3 says, "I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good and pleases God our Savior." We are not called to pray only for those with similar political persuasions but for ALL in authority, including those with different political views. With the news of the Republic party electing a new speaker in the House of Representatives, which, by the way, will be the speaker for every American, we have an opportunity to put God's Word to work. We must not allow our political affiliations to step in the way of our priestly ministry. Even if you have considered the Republicans as foes, you must still pray for them; you must seek out their wellbeing. Again, when our leaders succeed we succeed. In Matthew 5:44, Jesus says, "But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you."
Remember, as Christians, our affiliation and loyalty is to Christ and Christ ALONE. Our duty is to the different offices occupied by our leaders and not to individual personalities. So, the occupant of the office should not affect your priestly ministry. Pray regardless of who it is that occupies the office. Pray for your city, pray for your nation, and pray for the nations of the world. Pray against the agenda of hell, and again, pray for all who are in authority. Pray for Israel and Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza.
God bless you.
Faith-Filled Confession:
I come against every satanic force that is working to create chaos in my nation. I come against every plan of the enemy against our president, state governors, legislative leaders, and local government leaders. I declare the peace of God rules over my city and over my nation. In Jesus' name. Amen.
