"Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God" (2 Corinthians 5:20).
Very often, there is a tendency to associate today's theme scripture with evangelizing and it would not be wrong. But being an ambassador is much more. For starters, an ambassador is a go-between on behalf of the sovereign he/she represents and a foreign country. This means that the ambassador is first in constant communication with his/her sovereign, be it, a king, queen, president, or prime minister--before speaking to people in his/her place of assignment. Ambassadors cannot say anything that hasn't received clearance from the sovereign irrespective of personal opinions or knowledge.
Sadly, many ambassadors of Jesus Christ, get up in the morning and go about their day without a clue of their Sovereign's mind. They get out of bed. No prayer. No Bible study. No devotional. And this can go on until they are in church on Sunday. Inadvertently, these ones forsake their own mercy by observing lying vanities. You may ask how they observe lying vanities. The answer is simple. If you fail to pay attention to your Sovereign, you are paying attention to someone or something else ie. social media, news, and so on.
Lamentation 3:22-23 says, "Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness." Saint, there is a new mercy for you every morning and if you ignore it how can you function effectively as God's ambassador?
The reason God supplies you with daily mercies is because the spirit realm is more active than you can imagine and yesterday's mercy will not suffice today. Our enemy doesn't sleep and is always scheming something to try to cause you pain and disadvantage.
Hear me, the word God gave you yesterday may have expired at midnight and we have Isaiah 50:4-5 as proof: “The Lord GOD has given Me The tongue of the learned, That I should know how to speak A word in season to him who is weary. He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear To hear as the learned. The Lord GOD has opened My ear; and I was not rebellious, Nor did I turn away."
No ambassadors turn away from keeping communication lines open with their Sovereign, otherwise, they bear the risks of misrepresenting the King and worst still, being recalled. This is why the good old fashioned, "Read your Bible and pray every day" is sound doctrine for every believer. Do it daily when you get up. Commit to joining our early morning prayers and make a decision to study your Bible and the Grace Daily Devotional.
There is a new mercy for you today and every day. Don't leave it unutilized.
Have a blessed day!
Faith-Filled Confession
I am Christ's ambassador and while the mission of evangelizing is important, I recognize that receiving marching instructions from the Lord, daily, through His authorized channels is more important to the relationship I have with Him. I follow hard after His word daily, knowing that His mercies are new to me each day. Hallelujah!
