“God has spoken once, Twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God” (Psalm 62:11).
The way to learn how to hear God for yourself is to become used to how He speaks to you from the pages of the Bible. Sometimes, certain Christians say that they have never heard God speak to them, or don’t know how He speaks. Such statements may seem harmless and unassuming but these are warning signs of people who do not study their Bibles. For believers who study their Bibles, the Lord’s voice is not hard to discern.
Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me” (John 10:27). The import of this scripture is that for Christians to learn the Lord’s voice, there must be some intimacy involved.
When you study your Bible daily, don’t speed-read it. Also, avoid studying your Bible in a noisy environment. Study in quietness. Let your Bible study time be a solemn time for you when you switch off all distractions and focus.
Hear me, it is better you read a few verses and understand them than try to read two or three chapters in the hope that you meet some personal target or goal that you often end up bragging about.
When you study, your goal should be to understand the context of the scripture you are engaging with. Take notes and compare the verses in two or three other versions. This way, you will know what God can say and how He can say it, such that when you hear a voice speaking in your mind, you can determine the origin, easily.
For instance, God will never tell you to lie, undermine spiritual authority, or do anything that contradicts the Bible. Rather, when He speaks to you, His message will agree with His message in the Bible. This is why making a decision to study the Bible daily, and in quietness, is the most effective way to learn God’s voice.
As the day of the Lord’s return draws closer, hearing God for yourself is not negotiable. There are people that He will ask you to preach to and people He wants to tell you things about so that they will believe in Jesus.
Honing your ability to hear Him when He speaks is a service you need to be able to render to the Lord and the people in your life at this point in time.
Have a great day!
Faith-Filled Confession
I hear the voice of God audibly. As I study the scriptures, I gain a practiced heart to hear what and how the Lord speaks to me. And by this ability, I bring great profit to God. In Jesus’ name. Amen
