“I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.”—1 John 5:13
Jesus said in John 3:36, “He that believeth on the Son hath eternal life.” The Amplified Bible renders it this way: “He who believes and trusts in the Son and accepts Him [as Savior] has eternal life [that is, already possesses it].” In other words, if you believe in Jesus Christ, you already possess eternal life—the very God-life—not when you get to Heaven, but right now! You are divinity breathing and walking in humanity.
This is why I have often said: to call Christianity a religion is to abuse Jesus to His face. Christianity is not a religion—it is the Father alive in us! It is divinity intruding into the natural realm. The Christian life is a life above defeat, misery, and frustration. While some Christians experience struggles and live as though they are always trying to “come out” of problems, that is not God’s design. He is not in the business of “bringing us out,” because He has already given us eternal life—a life that cannot be brought under!
Beloved, with this eternal life at work in you, you don’t go from defeat to victory, rags to riches, or sickness to health. No—your life in Christ is not an endless cycle of ups and downs. If you are experiencing that, it’s because of ignorance of this divine life. This is why Apostle John wrote, “...so that you may know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:13). Your path in Christ only goes upward. Proverbs 4:18 declares: “The path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” That is God’s testimony about you!
Now that you know you have this life, use the Word as your periscope—your divine lens—to see beyond religion and human reasoning. God told Abram, “Look as far as you can see in every direction... I am giving it to you” (Genesis 13:14–15). Your revelation sets your limitation. If all you see are cycles of struggle, that’s what you will live. But if you see yourself through the finished work of Christ, your life will continually go from glory to glory.
Isaiah 5:13 warns, “My people are gone into captivity because they have no knowledge...” The issue is not the economy, background, or external opposition—the issue is lack of revelation. That’s why David declared, “By your words I can see where I’m going; they throw a beam of light on my dark path” (Psalm 119:105 MSG). He chose to see and say only what God revealed by His Word.
Child of God, your life is in the Word. Walk only where the Word shines its light. Speak only what is revealed to your spirit in Christ. Eternal life is yours—now!
Faith-Filled Confession
Divinity is at work in every fiber of my being. Christ’s conquest is my conquest. Therefore, I fix my mind on the Word. I refuse to entertain thoughts that contradict the reality of my eternal victory, health, and prosperity in Christ Jesus. Hallelujah!
