“But He gives more grace. That is why Scripture says: ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble’” (James 4:6, NIV).
The eleventh chapter of Hebrews is often referred to as the “Hall of Faith.” It chronicles the stories of men and women who, through unwavering faith, yielded to God’s Word and experienced extraordinary results. These were ordinary people—Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the prophets—who saw kingdoms subdued, promises fulfilled, and even the dead raised to life. The Bible says that through faith, “out of weakness they were made strong” (Hebrews 11:34). Their secret? A deep, personal submission to the Word of God.
This principle hasn’t changed. God is still looking for those who will take Him at His Word. He doesn’t show favoritism—but He does respond to faith and obedience. The life of Jesus is the ultimate example. He walked in continuous power and divine purpose, not because He was the Son of God in title only, but because He wholly yielded Himself to the Father. Jesus said, “I have come down from heaven not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me” (John 6:38). His miracles, authority, and impact flowed from His surrender.
The same Spirit that empowered Jesus lives in you today (Romans 8:11). The same divine nature has been imparted to you (2 Peter 1:4). What, then, is the missing link between our lives and the kind of supernatural fruitfulness Jesus and the heroes of faith experienced? Often, it’s our level of submission to the Word of God.
James 4:6 makes it clear: God gives greater grace—supernatural help, favor, and ability—to the humble. But He resists the proud. Pride isn’t always loud or arrogant. Sometimes, pride shows up in subtle ways—like resisting correction, refusing to yield to truth, or doing things our own way while quoting Scripture. True humility is yielding—putting God’s Word above your feelings, preferences, and reasoning. It means saying, “Lord, not my will, but Yours be done.”
Child of God, this is how you grow in grace and walk in the fullness of what Jesus paid for. Humility before God’s Word produces strength, wisdom, and miracles. It positions you for continuous increase and honor. As you submit to the Word today, expect doors to open and grace to abound in every area of your life.
God bless you richly!
Faith-Filled Confession:
I submit fully to the Word of God. I receive correction with joy and humility, knowing it positions me for increase. The Word is my foundation, my direction, and my delight. Today, my steps are ordered, my joy is full, and miracles abound in Jesus’ name. Amen.
