HOW GOD LEADS

"The spirit of a man is the lamp of the LORD, Searching all the inner depths of his heart." (Psalm 20:27)

The recreated human spirit is the primary way that the Lord leads Christians. Once you are born again your spirit is already attuned to hear and respond to God. Romans 8:14 says, "... as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God." 

What it doesn't say is, as many as are led by prophecies, dreams, visions, fleeces or feelings... That said, many Christians allow themselves to be led by dreams and visions. However, prophecies, dreams and visions aren't God's primary way to guide His kids. Yes the Bible says, "And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams" (Acts 2:17). 

However, prophecies, dreams and visions are not primarily for direction as these three could be counterfeited by the enemy.  The scripture is replete with cases of false prophecies (refer to 1 Thessalonians 5:20), false dreams (refer to Jeremiah 23:25) and false visions (refer to Ezekiel 13:6).

Fleeces and feelings also are not a criterion for divine direction. Now, what are fleeces? Fleeces are outward happenings to determine God's will. For instance, some Christians will say, "if it rains today, then God must not want me to marry so-and-so or God wants me to attend to attend a particular job interview." Nothing is more fleshly than looking for and using signs and symbols to determine the will of God for your life. 

More frequently, some Christians even chase feelings, and this too is wrong. The fact that you pray and do not feel a presence means nothing. The Lord doesn't operate by feelings. He operates based on His word.

So how does God primarily lead His kids? He leads them by His Word and His Spirit in your heart. Romans 8: 16 says, "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God." But what are the contents of the Spirit's witness in our hearts? The Bible lets us know that the Spirit bears witness to the truth or the Word of God (refer to John 15:26).

So whenever you encounter a prophecy, dream, vision, fleece or feeling, if you do not first have a clearance for the Spirit in your heart, discard it. God's Spirit in your heart only testifies of the truth of God's Word and that's the primary  2-factor authenticated means by which a Child of God receives direction. Hallelujah!
