"The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul's message." — Acts 16:14
Lydia’s story reminds us of a powerful truth:we can preach the Gospel, but only God can open a heart.
Paul and his companions went to Philippi and found Lydia, a woman who was already seeking God. As Paul spoke, the Lord opened her heart to receive the message. Her response was immediate—she and her household were baptized.
Notice the partnership: Paul preached, but God opened her heart.
This should give us great confidence when we share the Gospel. We are not responsible for changing people's hearts; we are responsible for faithfully delivering the message.
You may have a family member or a friend who seems resistant. You may have someone you have invited repeatedly with no visible response. Don't become discouraged.
Keep praying. Keep loving. Keep witnessing. Keep inviting.
God knows how to reach the heart that you cannot reach.
Sometimes we become frustrated because we are trying to do God's part. We can speak the Word, demonstrate love, and create opportunities, but the opening of the heart belongs to God.
So pray: “Lord, open their heart.” Give them ears to hear and hearts ready to receive.
Lydia was not forced into faith. God opened her heart, and she responded.
This is why we should never give up on people. The person who seems uninterested today may become a passionate follower of Christ tomorrow. The person who rejects the invitation today may one day become the one inviting others.
God can open any heart. Your assignment is to remain faithful to the message and sensitive to the Spirit. Preach the Gospel. Pray for hearts. Trust God with the response. And this house will be full. In Jesus name!
Amen.
Faith-Filled Confession
I trust God to open the hearts of those who hear the Gospel. I faithfully proclaim Christ with love, boldness, and compassion. I refuse to become discouraged when I do not immediately see a response. I pray that God opens the hearts of my family, friends, neighbors, and community to receive His Word. The Holy Spirit prepares hearts, and many will respond to the Gospel and receive Jesus Christ. God is opening hearts, and the harvest is coming in. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
